Short Text

Short text questions are used to gather ad-hoc information from the user but will restrict the length of the entry, questions should be written to promote a short entry.

The defined help should where necessary be used to guide the user to the amount of information required.

Creating a Short Text Question

  1. From the Edit Question page select Short Text from the Question Type drop down list.

  2. The Short Text fields are displayed.

  3. Complete the Name and Description these will not appear on the form unless the other name and description fields are left blank, they will then inherit the information entered in these fields.

  4. Complete the Name and Description on Reports fields if required (if you want them to be different to the mandatory name and description fields).

  5. Complete the Name and Description on Data Entry Screens fields if required (if you want them to be different to the mandatory name and description fields).

  6. Complete the Help Text this provides real time help when the participant is completing the Form. A symbol will be displayed next to the question. Hovering over this symbol with the mouse or clicking it will display the help text.

  7. Enter the Maximum Number of Characters Allowed, this is useful to control user input .

  8. Enter a value in the Data Entry Width in Pixels.

  9. Select if the question is Required.

  10. Checking the Confirm Value box will prompt the participant to re-enter/confirm the data entered.

  11. Checking the Obscured Display box will hide the data entered by replacing it with asterisks e.g. a password.

  12. Select the Encrypted Storage check box if you wish to have the data encrypted in the database for security.

  13. To update all shared copies of the form select Propagate Changes.

  14. Click the 4SAVE button.
